How to combine multiple Jira Boards in a single page view

By on Aug 27, 2017 in Interesting, Jira

Jira is by far the leading Project Management tool in the industry. It offers powerful and useful features to allow small or large teams manage their project/products more efficiently. In the software development industry it is also extremely popular, to the point that almost every developer I know has at one point in his/her career work in a company where they used Jira. In this short article we are going to discuss a specific configuration for Jira to make project management more effective and efficient. Combining Jira boards in a single view Jira provides the ability to create many boards to manage your team and resources. This is key in planning and organizing work load across the teams. Boards are custom and allow you to define queries/filters to your liking. However, one lacking feature with boards is the ability to combine them into one view. Why would you want to combine multiple boards in a single page view? The advantage of combining multiple boards into a single view If you manage multiple teams, sometimes the best thing to do is to create a board for each team. This gives you flexibility to manage each team independently and to track the average velocity per team. However, right of the bat there is an imminent problem; Sprint Planning can get tricky. With each board being isolated, it becomes difficult to see the big picture across all teams in active or future sprints. Unfortunately managing this using Jira alone is a pain in the rear. It means switching between...

Twilio Signal 2016

By on May 26, 2016 in Interesting

The Future of IoT Twilio #signal2016 was very amazing this year. For those not familiar, Twilio is a cloud communications platform for developers with a wide range of products check it out. There were some pretty exiting announcements this year. One of my favorite and that I have chosen to write about is Programable Wireless. Twilio is the first platform designed for developers to allow easy programing of cellular connectivity. As Jeff Lawson CEO of Twilio was making this announcement my head was exploding with cool ideas and projects to build. What is Programable Wireless The internet of thing is booming with new products and devices everyday. But most of these product rely on Wi-Fi or Bluetooth for connectivity. The problem with this is that it limits your range, if you are out of range… well it simply won’t work. Programmable Wireless starts with a Twilio SIM card, which enables any IoT device with 3G cellular connectivity. This takes the game to a whole new level. You no longer need to rely on Wi-Fi for internet connectivity. Your IoT device could be almost anywhere and you can still control it. This is freaking awesome! Starter Kit Each Signal participant received a complementary HackPack along with a SIM card. Twilio loves to empower developers to spark their creativity, and I am sure that many have already developed something amazing with this. I also started my own project, which I hope to share with all of you soon. As I mentioned,...

Finding great WordPress Themes & Plugins

Developing a WordPress Site? Tips from a WordPress Developer   Making a living developing WordPress Sites Whether you are a WordPress freelancer developing websites for clients or someone looking to build a WordPress website having the right tools can make your life a lot easier. WordPress is all about reusability, there are tons of plugins and themes out there that can significantly expedite the process. As a developer, I have built many websites and web apps before, and at first it was a tedious process. I was trying to treat all jobs completely different and create resources for each individual one. It took me a while to realize this was not efficient and was costing me a lot of time. So I decided to consolidate my resources and centralize everything. For example instead of developing a brand new theme per client, I started using the same theme and simply customizing it to the specific client’s need. This alone saved me tons of time, and as they say “time is money”. The advantages of reusing WordPress themes are great. You save a lot of time by not having to do tedious repetition of creating new WordPress themes, and simply modifying or customizing existing ones. By applying this simple technique I was able to boost my revenue and organize my workflow. But again I ran into another bottleneck. I was reusing the same WordPress theme over and over again, that I eventually ran out of customizations to make it look different....

WCMIA 2015

First Time Attending WordCamp So this passed weekend I attended WordCamp Miami at FIU and I have to say it was amazing. I got to talk to some of the people there and share some ideas. All of the speakers were also amazing, one of my favorites was Chris Lema who talked about the importance of having a well structured business plan, and also about how to improve your writing skills. Overall it was a great experience for me. I been messing around with WordPress for a while since 2012. Mostly on the development side, building custom themes for clients, creating user friendly plugins: Easy Bubble Menu and Visual Slide Box Builder. But being part of a social event was an expansion of my experience with WordPress. It is great to meet in person the people using WordPress and making a living out of it. It is really a great community to be part...
